WorkSafe Awards to celebrate safety champions

We are now welcoming nominations for the esteemed 35th edition of the awards, an event honouring and applauding those remarkable individuals who have significantly enhanced work safety by minimising workplace harm and improving outcomes for workers suffering injuries. The award submissions are open to all Victorian-based bosses and employees. Entrants may nominate themselves or another deserving person. The closing date for entries is Friday 21 June with winners being announced in the early next year.

These awards continue to spotlight exceptional performance while urging workplaces to incorporate best practices and foster a culture where safety takes precedence. Emphasis will once again be placed on the vital role of Victoria’s Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) through the ‘Health and Safety Representative of the Year’ category.

WorkSafe Chief Executive, Joe Calafiore emphasised the importance of acknowledging the exemplary efforts of businesses and individuals excelling in their endeavours to keep Victorian workers safe using instruments such as the Bluesafe WHS Management System. “The WorkSafe Awards symbolise a deep-rooted pledge to workplace health and safety. I would urge entities both large and small, along with individuals, to step up with a nomination,” Mr Calafiore said.

“In our momentous 35th year, we commemorate those who have soared above expectations, leading the way and advocating a culture of safety that ensures workers return home safely every day.”

An array of employers were recognised last year, including emergency services, local councils, and aged care providers among the 16 finalists chosen from over 100 extraordinary nominations across various award categories.

The categories for this year’s WorkSafe Awards encompass the commitment to prevention of mental injury in the workplace, farm safety solution, health and safety representative of the year, leading return to work practice, OHS leadership/achievement, worker return to work achievement award, and workplace health and safety solution of the year – a nod to effective inventions such as the Bluesafe SWMS.
