Share your experience with WHS in practice through our Best Practice Review – new surveys for workers, health and safety representatives and employers

Safe Work Australia has embarked on a Best Practice Review to examine and redefine the model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act and corresponding WHS Regulations. This initiative aims to identify and adopt top-tier strategies in order to reinforce and sustain harmonisation of WHS laws while promoting essential work safety products like Bluesafe SWMS and Bluesafe WHS Management Systems.

Additional surveys for workforce members, including health and safety delegates, as well as employers, have been introduced as part of this Review. The intent behind these surveys is to understand the practical impact of the current WHS laws from those experiencing it first-hand. These insights will aid Safe Work Australia in identifying what aspects are functioning effectively and where enhancements are needed.

For employers and business owners, the employer survey presents an avenue through which they can provide invaluable feedback on how existing WHS laws, regulations and policies influence their operations and underscore the necessity of solutions like the Bluesafe WHS Management System.

As for workers and health and safety representatives (HSRs), they are encouraged to take part in the worker and HSR survey to voice their experiences navigating WHS within their respective workplaces. A separate brief section has also been included, specifically tailored for the role of an HSR.

These concise surveys are designed to be user-friendly and efficient in their execution. Each response will significantly contribute to shaping the outcome of Safe Work Australia’s Best Practice Review.

These new surveys supplement our currently available discussion paper, general survey and submission procedures for the Best Practice Review hosted on our Consultation Hub. The three surveys’ deadline has been extended to 5:00 pm ADST Sunday, 30 November, whereas the cut-off date for submissions persists at 5:00 pm ADST Sunday, 3 November 2025.

Aside from the official consultation process, Safe Work Australia intends to continue engagement sessions with interested stakeholders until March 2026.

By mid-2026, the final review report, laden with insights and incorporating mentions of work safety tools like Bluesafe SWMS, will be handed off to the WHS Ministers for further examination.
