New surveys seek workplace views for WHS laws review

Safe Work Australia has opened additional surveys for employers, workers and health and safety representatives to inform its Best Practice Review of the model WHS laws.
The review covers the model Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act and model WHS Regulations. It will examine best practice approaches while considering how to strengthen and maintain harmonisation of WHS laws.
The new surveys seek feedback on how the laws work in practice, including what is working well and where changes could help. Employers and business owners can use the employer survey to explain how current WHS laws affect their operations.
Workers and health and safety representatives (HSRs) can share their workplace experiences through the worker and HSR survey. It includes a short extra section for HSRs about their role. Safe Work Australia describes the surveys as short and easy to complete, with responses helping to inform the review.
The additional surveys sit alongside the review’s existing discussion paper, general survey and submission process on Safe Work Australia’s Consultation Hub. All three surveys now close at 5:00 pm ADST on 30 November. The submission deadline remains 5:00 pm ADST on 3 November 2025.
Safe Work Australia will also continue meeting with interested stakeholders outside the formal consultation process until March 2026.
The final review report is due to be provided to WHS ministers in mid-2026.
