Safe Work Australia has launched a new online version of the model Code of Practice for the healthcare and social assistance industry, delivering clearer, more accessible WHS guidance for one of Australia’s highest-risk sectors.
Safe Work Australia has released an online version of the model Code of Practice: Healthcare and social assistance industry, providing easier access to essential work health and safety (WHS) guidance for this high-risk sector.
The online model Code contains the same comprehensive guidance as the existing text-based publication, but is now delivered in a clear, web-based format designed for simple navigation and practical use in the workplace.
Covering Australia’s largest and fastest growing industry – employing more than 2 million workers and recording the highest number of work-related injuries – the online model Code offers straightforward, practical advice to help duty holders identify hazards, control risks and comply with WHS obligations.
The resource supports the development and implementation of robust WHS management systems, as well as the preparation of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and workplace policies and procedures that align with legislative requirements. For organisations seeking supporting documentation, structured WHS management system templates are available from providers such as Bluesafe Online.
Developed in consultation with industry stakeholders and Safe Work Australia Members, the online model Code is intended to make WHS guidance more accessible and relevant to the full range of healthcare and social assistance settings, from hospitals and aged care to community and in-home services.
Employers, PCBUs, health professionals and workers are encouraged to review the online model Code of Practice and integrate its guidance into their existing WHS systems, SWMS and policies to support safer, healthier workplaces across the sector.
