Safe Work Australia releases AI and digital technology guidance

Safe Work Australia has released guidance to help employers, workers and other duty holders understand the work health and safety implications of introducing or changing AI and digital technologies at work.
As artificial intelligence and digital technologies become more common in Australian workplaces, they are changing how work is done. Although they may bring new and emerging risks, the approach to managing those risks is the same as for other workplace hazards.
The technologies cover a wide range of hardware and software used at work. They can boost productivity and help workplaces manage WHS risks more effectively.
However, poor design, implementation or management can introduce hazards or worsen existing physical and psychological risks.
The new guidance covers the opportunities, risks and WHS considerations associated with these technologies. It explains how duty holders can use the WHS risk management process, in consultation with workers and their representatives, to introduce and use them safely.
Under the model WHS laws, employers must manage risks arising from AI and digital technologies so that workers and others remain healthy and safe at work.
