WorkSafe Victoria’s Health and Safety Month program will feature 25 face-to-face events and 15 webinars, covering topics from manual handling and mental health to construction and farm safety. The program runs from 1 October to 1 November 2024.
The annual workplace safety tour will begin in Portland and finish in Dandenong. Experts will share information and advice, discuss current trends and open up conversations about workplace health and safety.
Regional sessions will cover safer manual handling, support for workers returning after injury, the role of health and safety representatives, and managing workplace mental health risks.
Tradies’ events in Ballarat, Hamilton, Warragul and Thomastown will focus on construction safety, offering participants information about industry best practice alongside a free breakfast.
A session hosted by the Birchip Cropping Group will help farmers prepare for a safe and successful harvest. Horticultural safety will also feature at the Sound Body, Safe Work workshop at VEG Education in Werribee South.
The face-to-face program will be followed by 15 webinars from 28 October to 1 November. Topics include apprentice support and supervision, preventing gendered violence in healthcare, safe use of elevated work platforms, welding fume exposure, mental injury treatment pathways, high-risk crystalline silica work, the engineered stone ban, and psychosocial hazards.
Former Geelong Cats captain Cameron Ling will return to present several webinars and in-person events, including sessions in Ballarat, Bendigo, Shepparton and Geelong.
WorkSafe Chief Executive Officer Joe Calafiore, who will present a webinar on 29 October, encouraged employers and workers to view the full program online. “When it comes to health and safety, there is always something more to learn, so I encourage you to visit the website and sign up for the sessions that would be useful to you.”
Registrations are open for all events and webinars. Each session will include a question-and-answer segment so participants can seek advice about workplace health and safety issues or concerns.
