Queensland businesses alerted to asbestos-containing fire doors

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has contacted affected businesses after asbestos-containing fire rated board was detected following information from Australian Border Force.

A Victorian company imported the fire rated board from China into Australia and then sold it to a Queensland manufacturer.

The manufacturer, Firemex Pty Ltd, has been working with Workplace Health and Safety Queensland to supply information about where the affected fire doors were distributed.

Access restrictions during decontamination work at the manufacturer’s warehouse delayed the provision of that information.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland has advised affected businesses about the risk, their legislative duties and recommended actions.

Fire doors containing the asbestos board present an extremely low risk when they remain in good condition and are not disturbed, because the board is enclosed in steel or wood.
