Queensland’s Work Health and Safety and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024 introduces changes focused on stronger worker protection and representation, and greater uptake of health and safety representatives in workplaces.
The legislation implements changes arising from the 2022 review of Queensland’s Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and recommendations from the national 2018 Review of the Model Work Health and Safety Laws, known as the Boland Review.
The amendment Act changes both the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and the Safety in Recreational Water Activities Act 2011. Supporting amendments are also being made to the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011.
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is preparing guidance to help people understand the changes. Available resources include a pre-recorded webinar, a timeline of changes and a stakeholder communication kit containing frequently asked questions, key messages and resources.
The regulator also provides answers to common questions about the amendment Act. Updates are available through its webpage, eNEWS subscription and social channels.
