SafeWork NSW is launching a workplace safety campaign targeting workers aged 18–54 in construction, agriculture, trade and food delivery. Its message to workers, employers, businesses and contractors is: “It’s the safe way or no way”.

The campaign aims to increase awareness of workplace risks and promote safer ways of working. It highlights high-risk activities across several industries, including work at heights, machinery use and food delivery.

For work at heights, the campaign promotes having appropriate safety controls in place. It also focuses on using guards and wearing suitable, well-fitted personal protective equipment. Falls from heights are the leading cause of workplace deaths and serious injuries across NSW.

Agriculture, which has the second-highest number of fatalities among industries, is another focus. The campaign addresses serious risks involving farm equipment and other hazards, including animal handling.

Warehouse safety messages cover wearing seatbelts in forklifts and keeping plant separate from pedestrians. For food delivery riders, the campaign addresses injury risks, including the use of high-visibility equipment to help prevent injuries to riders and other road users.

Advertising will run across regional and metropolitan areas through radio, print, video, social media and YouTube. The campaign will also include advertising in various languages for people whose first language is not English.

Head of SafeWork NSW Trent Curtin said the campaign would extend the reach of the safety messages inspectors deliver during workplace visits. He said its targeting drew on workers compensation injury claims, incident data, research into enduring and emerging high-risk harms, and inspectors’ day-to-day experience.
