SafeWork NSW inspectors and engineers are checking safety at the 2024 Sydney Royal Easter Show, with almost 900,000 people expected to attend. Inspections will continue throughout the event and its shutdown.
Inspectors have been at the show site since 4 March, offering advice and carrying out compliance activities to protect workers and visitors.
Their checks cover amusement devices, forklift operation, traffic management, work at heights and electrical safety. Gas storage at food stalls is also being inspected.
Carnival ride operators must implement reasonably practicable controls to manage the risks of operating amusement devices. Current registration, maintenance and training records must be readily available.
SafeWork inspectors will remain on site throughout the show and take part in its shutdown to check that safe work methods are being used.
Head of SafeWork NSW Trent Curtin said the event was significant for Sydney and NSW, and that SafeWork’s role was to help workers and visitors get home safely each day.
“Our Inspectors will have a constant presence at the Show and will be providing advice and assistance where it is needed.”
