Safe Work Australia is opening its National Safe Work Month risk management focus with hazard identification, highlighting ways workplaces can recognise potential sources of physical and psychological harm.
National Safe Work Month gives workplaces across Australia an opportunity to focus on work health and safety and make safe, healthy work a priority.
This year’s theme, safety: every job, every day, encourages workplaces of every occupation, industry, location and size to make safety an everyday priority. The campaign links that focus to reducing workplace fatalities, serious injuries and illnesses, and helping everyone return home safely.
Safe Work Australia will work through the risk management process during the month, beginning with identifying hazards. This involves finding things or situations that could harm people physically, psychologically or both.
Workplace inspections, reviewing data and consulting workers are among the ways to identify hazards. Practical resources on hazard identification are available in the National Safe Work Month activity kit.
The campaign also promotes SafeTea events as a way to bring workplaces together for health and safety discussions, including conversations about identifying hazards. Its resource hub includes talking points, discussion dice and trivia to support these events.
Safe Work Australia will share further ideas, activities and resources through its website and social media throughout National Safe Work Month.
