Safe Work Australia is focusing on risk management in Week 3 of National Safe Work Month, building on the WHS fundamentals covered in Week 1.
The campaign highlights employers’ legal duty to manage health and safety risks so workers and other people, including visitors, are kept safe. Managing risks is a core part of maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.
A proactive approach involves assessing and controlling workplace hazards and risks, genuinely consulting with workers, and monitoring and reviewing control measures.
The Week 3 focus examines the steps involved in completing a WHS risk assessment and the matters to consider at each stage. The same assessment process applies to both physical and psychological hazards.
Alongside effective risk management, the campaign highlights genuine consultation, worker training and support as WHS fundamentals that contribute to a healthy and safe environment for everyone.
