Public consultation opens on engineered stone ban review

10 Mar 2025•BlueSafe Team•Source: Safe Work Australia

Safe Work Australia has opened public consultation on how the engineered stone ban is working in practice. Feedback will inform a review to be provided to WHS ministers for consideration.

The engineered stone ban took effect on 1 July 2024 to help protect workers from exposure to respirable crystalline silica. Safe Work Australia is now seeking feedback on its operation.

The consultation covers access to information and resources about the ban, ideas for future work health and safety research into silica, and potential improvements to the ban.

Anyone with an interest in the ban’s operation is invited to contribute. Safe Work Australia is particularly seeking input from employers and workers with direct experience of the ban.

Submissions close at 11.59 pm (AEDT) on Monday 31 March 2025. Participants can complete an online questionnaire through Safe Work Australia’s Consultation Hub, upload a submission, or do both.

Further information is available on Safe Work Australia’s engineered stone ban website or from state and territory WHS regulators.
