24 July 2025•BlueSafe Team•Source: Safe Work Australia

Safe Work Australia is seeking public feedback on a draft model Code of Practice for managing biological hazards at work. Submissions close at 11:59pm on Thursday 4 September 2025.

The model Code is being developed to give employers practical guidance on managing workplace risks from biological hazards.

These hazards include viruses, bacteria, parasites and some fungi, such as mould, and can occur across all industries. The draft is intended to cover any workplace where workers or others could be exposed to biological hazards.

Safe Work Australia Members and other subject matter experts have supported the draft’s development. Feedback gathered through public consultation will help refine it further.

Submissions are welcome from all interested stakeholders. These include employers and other duty holders, workers, unions, regulators, government agencies, legal professionals, researchers, employer representatives and members of the public.

Further information and the opportunity to provide feedback are available through Safe Work Australia’s Consultation Hub.
