The Queensland Government has launched a statewide campaign to reduce workplace deaths and critical injuries, with proactive safety audits scheduled from July to October.

The campaign targets safety outcomes in industries including construction, manufacturing, health care and social assistance. It highlights the emotional, physical, mental and financial consequences that unsafe workplaces can have for workers and industry.

Queensland recorded 39 workplace fatalities in 2023. During the 2023/24 financial year, courts imposed more than $6.8 million in fines on individuals and businesses across the state in cases brought by the independent Work Health and Safety Prosecutor.

A central theme is that workplace safety depends on shared responsibility. The campaign highlights the roles of employers, employees and health and safety representatives in protecting themselves and those around them.

Aimed at Queensland workers aged 35–65, the campaign promotes consistently following safety procedures and best practice. It addresses areas associated with higher levels of workforce complacency, including harassment and sexual harassment, personal protective equipment (PPE) and high-risk manual tasks.

The campaign also calls on anyone who sees unsafe work practices to report them rather than take the risk.

From July to October, Workplace Health and Safety representatives will conduct proactive audits at businesses across Queensland to check compliance with health and safety standards.
