The WorkCover Board has appointed Michael Pennisi as Chief Executive Officer of WorkCover Queensland following an executive search. He will begin the role on 18 June 2024.
Mr Pennisi brings more than 30 years of experience across superannuation, insurance and investments. His previous leadership roles include CEO of QSuper, QInsure and QInvest, and he has overseen major transformation programs in large financial services organisations.
The Board highlighted his values-based leadership, insurance expertise and stakeholder relationships as strengths he will bring to WorkCover. It also recognised his commitment to meeting the needs of customers and the community.
“I am honoured to be appointed as the CEO of WorkCover Queensland,” said Mr. Pennisi.
Mr Pennisi described the appointment as an opportunity to support Queensland workers, employers and the wider community. He said he looked forward to working with WorkCover’s people, customers and stakeholders to help Queenslanders recover and return to work after workplace injuries, while supporting the workers’ compensation scheme’s ongoing sustainability.
The Board also thanked Deputy CEO David Heley, who has served as Acting CEO since Bruce Watson retired earlier in the year. It acknowledged his work with the Board, stakeholders and staff in maintaining a strong organisation ahead of the leadership handover.
