Mad Diesel Repairs Pty Ltd has been charged following the death of a 26-year-old man who was pinned by a garbage truck in Melbourne’s CBD.
The man was near the garbage truck when it moved forward, trapping him against a post and a building wall.
Mad Diesel Repairs Pty Ltd faces a single charge under section 23(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The charge concerns an alleged failure to ensure people other than employees were not exposed to risks to their health and safety.
WorkSafe alleges the company did not correctly adjust the truck’s brakes after carrying out repairs on the vehicle in April 2023.
A filing hearing is scheduled at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court for 12 May 2025.
