Barwon Health faces two health and safety charges following the death of a patient in its acute psychiatric unit in December 2022.

The two charges are under section 23(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

They allege Barwon Health failed to ensure, so far as was reasonably practicable, that people other than employees were not exposed to risks to their health and safety.

The patient was receiving treatment in the hospital's acute psychiatric unit when she took her own life.

A filing hearing is listed at Geelong Magistrates' Court for 7 January 2025.
