An 84-year-old farmer has died after becoming trapped between a tractor’s steering wheel and a steel beam at the edge of a slurry pond.
The farmer is believed to have been reversing the tractor while using a scraper attachment to remove cow manure from a concrete dairy path.
The tractor’s rear wheels are believed to have slipped into the slurry pond, pinning him between the steering wheel and a steel beam at the pond’s edge. He was discovered unresponsive at about 5pm.
The death brings the confirmed workplace fatality toll for 2025 to 40, compared with 41 work-related deaths at the same point last year.
