WorkSafe Victoria’s annual Health and Safety Month tour starts on Wednesday 1 October, with 19 face-to-face events across the state and 12 webinars. The free, expert-led sessions will explore workplace safety issues across a range of industries.

Workers and employers can attend sessions on current safety trends, with a focus on high-risk industries including construction, manufacturing, agriculture, health care and social assistance, and the public sector.

WorkSafe Chief Executive Officer Ash West will feature in a webinar on the regulator’s five-year strategy. Its targets include reducing workplace deaths by 30 per cent and injuries by 20 per cent, while improving return-to-work rates by 10 per cent.

Mr West encouraged employers and workers to hear the latest advice and insights from health and safety experts. “Health and safety advice evolves as industries adapt to the latest innovations, so Health and Safety Month provides fresh perspectives on important issues, even for experienced employers and workers,” he said.

Webinar topics will include new psychological health regulations due to be introduced later this year to strengthen workplace protections against psychosocial hazards. The webinars will run from 27 to 31 October.

The regional roadshow will explore safer manual handling, support for workers returning after injury, the role of health and safety representatives, and dangerous goods management. Hosts and MCs, including former Geelong Cats captain Cameron Ling, will present events in Ballarat, Bendigo, Shepparton and Geelong.

Tradies’ events in Horsham, Kyneton, Wallington and Hallam will focus on construction site safety. In Hamilton, the National Centre for Farmer Health will host a session on safe livestock handling.

Registration is open for all events. Each session will include a question-and-answer segment where participants can seek advice about workplace health and safety issues or concerns.
