New guidance helps workplaces assess bushfire risks

Safe Work Australia has released an information sheet to help persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) assess workplace bushfire risks using national fire danger ratings and warning systems.
PCBUs must eliminate workplace risks, including those associated with bushfires. Where elimination is not reasonably practicable, they must minimise those risks so far as is reasonably practicable.
Bushfires are possible throughout the year, with a greater likelihood during warmer weather and the local bushfire season. The national fire danger rating and warning systems can support businesses in identifying and assessing these risks.
The information sheet adds to Safe Work Australia’s bushfire resources. Further information is available on its Bushfire smoke in the workplace and Working near bushfires webpages.
