Safe Work Australia is consulting on a proposal to lower the workplace exposure standard for aluminium welding fumes from 5mg/m3 to 1mg/m3. Submissions close on Friday, 28 February 2025.
A review published by Safe Work Australia recommends reducing the eight-hour time-weighted average workplace exposure standard for aluminium welding fumes from 5mg/m3 to 1mg/m3.
The proposed lower limit is intended to better protect workers against adverse health effects associated with exposure to aluminium welding fumes.
Feedback received during consultation will inform the recommendation Safe Work Australia Members make to work health and safety ministers about the proposed reduction.
The existing exposure standard remains in place while WHS ministers consider whether to approve the change.
