Queensland construction blitz targets heights, scaffolds and powerlines

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) has launched a statewide construction compliance blitz aimed at reducing serious workplace incidents. Inspectors will target sites across Queensland between July and September 2024.
The campaign will focus on work at height, scaffolding and work near overhead powerlines. Workplace data shows significant injuries associated with working at height, alongside high levels of non-compliance involving scaffolds and work near overhead powerlines.
The blitz includes an initial awareness phase, during which WHSQ will give Queensland construction businesses information and tools to help them understand and comply with work health and safety legislation.
After that phase, inspectors will check whether workplaces meet their legal obligations and take enforcement action where they identify non-compliance.
WHSQ is encouraging businesses to visit the WorkSafe Queensland website or contact its team for information about complying with the legislation.
Businesses and company directors have a primary duty of care to provide safe environments for workers and members of the public. WHSQ’s role is to regulate businesses’ compliance with those duties.
Employers must understand their duties and have systems in place to manage workplace health and safety risks effectively.
