Wrigley Metal Roofing Co Pty Ltd has been fined $225,000 in the District Court of NSW after a worker suffered serious injuries in a fall from a residential roof.
The SafeWork NSW prosecution followed an incident on 25 July 2022, when the worker fell nearly 3.8 metres at a construction site in Avalon Beach, NSW.
Wrigley Metal Roofing Co Pty Ltd had been engaged to assist the principal contractor at the site. The worker was employed to carry out re-sheeting and cladding work.
The company pleaded guilty to an offence under section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW), having failed to comply with its duty to workers under section 19(1). It has the right to appeal its sentence.
Falls from heights continue to be a leading cause of traumatic injuries and deaths in NSW workplaces, with the majority occurring in construction.
SafeWork NSW has placed falls from heights first among its 2025–26 regulatory priorities, which aim to prevent or reduce workplace deaths, injuries and illnesses.
SafeWork Commissioner Janet Schorer said the regulator remained committed to supporting industry and workplaces to keep workers safe at height. She encouraged businesses whose workers are exposed to heights to complete the regulator’s working at heights in construction safety checklist.
The full judgment is available on the NSW Caselaw website. Information about working safely at heights is available on the SafeWork NSW website.
