Ramsay Health Care Australia Pty Ltd faces two health and safety charges following the death of a patient receiving treatment in a hospital’s perinatal mental health unit.
The two charges are under section 23(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. They concern an alleged failure to ensure, so far as reasonably practicable, that people other than employees were not exposed to health and safety risks.
The patient died by suicide in November 2023 while being treated in the hospital’s perinatal mental health unit.
A filing hearing is scheduled at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 6 November 2025.
