Fienza Pty Ltd faces 22 charges over allegations it allowed or directed a worker to process engineered stone and supplied engineered stone benchtops in July 2024. These are the first charges WorkSafe Victoria has issued under the new ban.

The bathroom wholesaler faces one charge under regulation 319Y(b) of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations for allegedly directing or allowing a worker under its management or control to carry out an engineered stone process.

The allegation concerns a worker using machinery to cut holes in engineered stone benchtops at Fienza’s Epping warehouse in July 2024.

Fienza also faces 21 charges under regulation 319Y(a) for allegedly directing or allowing a worker to supply engineered stone benchtops, panels or slabs.

WorkSafe alleges the company supplied engineered stone benchtops on 21 occasions during July 2024 to traders in Epping, Bairnsdale, Narre Warren, Mitcham, Bendigo, Warrnambool, Boronia, Warragul, Hastings, Belmont, Lakes Entrance, Richmond, Hamilton, Hoppers Crossing and Ravenhall.

Victoria’s new regulations took effect on 1 July 2024, banning work involving the manufacture, supply, processing or installation of engineered stone benchtops, panels and slabs.

The case is scheduled for a mention at Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on 17 June 2025.
