Safe Work Australia has released a baseline report for the Australian Work Health and Safety Strategy 2023–2033, examining Australia’s WHS context in 2023, when the strategy began.
Drawing on multiple data sources, the report outlines areas for action over the strategy’s 10-year span. It also examines measurable targets intended to support improvements in WHS outcomes across the system.
The strategy establishes a national vision for safe, healthy work for everyone. It gives WHS stakeholders across Australia a shared direction and calls for action on both longstanding and emerging challenges.
Those challenges include psychosocial risk management, the growing use of artificial intelligence, automation and associated technologies, and changing work arrangements such as gig work.
A companion technical report, About the data, explains the main datasets behind the baseline report and how progress towards each target will be measured. It also introduces the evidence needed for a fuller understanding of WHS and provides guidance on interpreting the data.
