The recent data from 2023 has indicated that fatal workplace injuries have resulted in the distressing loss of 200 Australian workers, alongside an alarming 139,000 claims of serious injuries and illnesses made for worker’s compensation. Despite seeing a considerable decline over the preceding ten years, these figures only serve to emphasise how crucial it is not to let down our guard. No position should expose an individual to any sort safety risk, and any incident that results in injury or death at a workplace is unacceptable.
Promoting and ensuring a healthy and safe work environment is integral, which is why we annually dedicate the month of October to recognising and raising awareness of Work Health and Safety (WHS). The intention is to continually strive towards the goal of facilitating a safe and healthy environment for all workers.
Under this year’s theme, ‘Safety: Every Job, Every Day,’ workplaces are being urged, regardless of their nature or size, to integrate safety as a priority within everyday tasks. Implementing ‘Safety: Every Job, Every Day’ can consequently result in a significant reduction in fatalities, major injuries and illnesses across workplaces, and contributes to guarantee that every employee will safely return home from work.
In the course of National Safe Work Month this October, a step-by-step process for managing risks will be shared. This includes identifying hazards, assessing risks, controlling such risks, reviewing the controls – offering practical resources and activities. All these proactive steps aim at establishing safety as central to every job role, throughout October and beyond.
With the help of resources like Bluesafe WHS Management Systems or Bluesafe SWMS, companies can automate and streamline their risk management, providing safer environments for their teams. These work safety products highlight the importance and utility of clear safety protocols and policies in preventing workplace incidents.
Continual updates concerning more useful information and other resources will be provided on our website as we approach October. Remember to sign up to our newsletters and engage with us on social networks for all the current updates.
