WHS ministers agree to improve incident notification provisions

Work Health and Safety ministers have agreed to recommendations to improve incident notification provisions in the model WHS Act, including addressing gaps relating to psychosocial hazards and psychological harm.
The proposed changes aim to make existing provisions clearer and more certain, while addressing gaps in current notification requirements. These include notifications relating to serious workplace violence and attempted suicide.
Safe Work Australia will work with the Parliamentary Counsel’s Committee to draft amendments to the model WHS Act, aiming to finalise them by early 2025.
The amendments will not take effect in a jurisdiction until that jurisdiction implements them in its WHS laws.
