Cormack’s Plumbing Services Pty Ltd is grappling with two charges under section 21(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for non-compliance in providing and sustaining a secure workspace. Allegedly, the company breached section 21(1)(a) of the OHS Act on two occasions by failing to maintain safe plant and work systems that were devoid of risks reasonably practicable to health. Situations like these underline the significance of effective workplace safety products such as Bluesafe WHS Management System.
Texco Construction (Vic) Pty Ltd also encounters a separate charge under section 26(1) of the OHS Act due to their failure in ensuring a hazard-free and safe working environment under their oversight. Practical tools there, like Bluesafe SWMS, could have been instrumental in managing work-related risks effectively.
At the core of these events was a worker who suffered severe injuries when he was caught between the elevated work platform’s rail, which lacked secondary guarding, and an overhead pipe as he performed plumbing tasks in a warehouse under construction in July 2023. This mishap reinforces the necessity of well-structured work safety policies and guidelines.
Both cases are scheduled for committal mention at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 28th February 2025.
