Adco Group Pty Limited, a prominent construction company, and Colab Building Tech Pty Ltd, a façade contractor, are each facing a single charge under Section 26(1) of the Work Health and Safety Act. They are accused of neglecting their duty to ensure – as far as is reasonably achievable – that the workplace under their authority was maintained in a safe manner, posing no health risks. This exemplifies the critical role that Work Health and Safety (WHS) systems and safety procedures play in fostering a risk-free environment at work.
It’s contended by WorkSafe, Australia’s leading workforce safety body, that it was within the realms of reasonable expectation for a skilled individual to review the quality assurance documents linked to an imported steel truss. This process would confirm that the truss had been welded following the stipulations of the design blueprints and underlying fabrication prerequisites.
This allegation has placed the spotlight on Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) like those provided by Bluesafe SWMS. These comprehensive guidelines not only simplify complex processes but heighten safety levels by clearly outlining the method of operation and the necessary precautions to take.
These proceedings are slated for a filing hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on November 11th, 2024. The situation once again underscores the irreplaceable importance of incorporating robust WHS management systems. Bluesafe WHS Management System, for instance, streamlines policy development and implementation, ensuring all organisations remain compliant with Australian WHS regulations.
